A delicious farmer's market find, brussel sprouts. This cruciferous vegetable is loaded with nutritional love. In addition to being a significant contributor of vitamin K, there have been dozens of studies done investigating their health benefits in relationship to cancer. The cancer prevention we get from Brussel sprouts is predominantly linked to their unique combination of a powerful group of phytochemicals called glucosinolates. 

Tip: if you are turned off by their smell, take note that the off-putting sulfuric odor created during preparation is usually a sign of over-cooking. To help them cook more quickly and evenly, try halving or even quartering them. For maximum nutritional value use the steaming method and toss once cooled with a healthy dressing of your choice. One of my favs is olive oil, sea salt, pepper and lemon zest!
